Front 9 goes up around the mountain and back 9 borders the clarion river. Amazing views and hole layouts, with one of the funnest par 3’s I’ve ever played (It’s 180 yards but plays 110 because of the elevation change straight down a cliff) Also the there’s a civil war era cemetery in between the 8th green and 9th tee box. I think I paid $20 for 9 and a cart on a random Thursday this summer

Royal New Kent (which I believe is the "sister course") is also pretty squirrelly. Right outside of Richmond, VA. Total Tobacco Road vibes. Super fun. Worth a trip.

Meadows Farms in Virginia. 841 yard par 6 hole. A hole that has a baseball diamond for a green. A hole where the green sits on top of a waterfall. Fun and dumb.

Very cool backyard course that was closed to the public until 2021. 9 holes ranging from 60-150 wind throughout the property creating little pockets of hang out areas and things to discover. The course was in pretty good shape and the greens were tough. Had to stick the shot to keep them from running off. Supposedly Donald Ross inspired. The coolest part of the course is where you go through this little back town and cross a rickety bridge to the 17th island tee box. There was character in every corner and you could tell that the course was a peice of art, carefully crafted over many years. Def a cool little find.

There's 2 courses on the property and it's certainly something! The architect built it out of an old stone quarry and there are GIGANTIC Stonehenge-level rocks everywhere. Def worth the play if you're within a few hours drive.
Literally came here to say Rock Harbor. I have played there twice. Fun course. Some holes have hazards that are parking lot sized traps filled with some kind of rock. Definitely a course worth playing. I’ve only played the Rock Course.

On Kent Island, MD is probably not quite as weird as some of the others on this list but it is a joy. Par 63, and there is a triple green!
